Chetan Solanki

Chetan Solanki completed his BVA (2022) and MVA in Mural Design (2024) from MSU Baroda. He received the Nasreen Mohamedi Award (2024) and the Gujarat State Lalit Kala Akademi Award (2021). His exhibitions include Pushpa Baug(Anant Art, 2024), Medium, Manifestation, and Manipulation (Latitude 28, 2024), Contours of Contemporary (Latitude 28, 2024), and Feral Ecologies (HH Art Space, 2025).

Deeply influenced by Indian miniature and mural traditions, Solanki works with natural pigments, handmade paper, and traditional materials like khadi, indigo, and clay colours. His childhood memories of women painting mud houses sparked his fascination with natural pigments, leading him to experiment with clay-based pastels and papermaking. His process is ritualistic, emphasizing the materiality of colour and surface preparation.

Solanki’s practice revolves around themes of loss—personal, cultural, ecological, and linguistic. Through traditional and experimental methods, he seeks to document and archive what is on the verge of extinction. He continues his work in Baroda.
