Manisha Parekh
Born in 1964 in Gujarat, Manisha Parekh holds an M.A. in painting from the Royal College of Art, London (1991–93), and M.S. University, Baroda (1983–90). A founding member of Khoj International Artists Workshop, she is among the few Indian artists dedicated to abstraction. Her practice draws from Gaitonde’s ethereal compositions, Nasreen Mohamedi’s geometric precision, and Jeram Patel’s gestural ink drawings.
Parekh’s work reflects Indian craft and textile traditions, blending painting, collage, and drawing. She layers handmade paper into intricate patterns, perforates surfaces, and incorporates diverse materials, creating a balance between geometric structure and organic flow.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, with recent solo shows at Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai. It is part of major collections, including the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, Jehangir Nicholson Collection, Royal College of Art, and Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung.
