Born in 1979 in Mumbai, Minal Damani is a visual artist working across drawing, painting, and installation art. She completed her B.F.A. in Painting from Sir J.J. School of Art in 2000, followed by an M.F.A. in Painting from the same institution in 2002.
Her practice revolves around mark-making and repetition, where she continuously confronts the void—layering it with meaning through a labour-intensive, process-driven approach. The endlessness of this repetitive engagement fascinates her, creating loops of doing and redoing that navigate uncertainty.
In her work, the act of drawing transcends materiality, yet through this very process, time and labor take on tangible form. The physicality of her practice, combined with its meditative, almost ritualistic nature, results in compositions that embody both presence and absence, structure and fluidity. Based in Mumbai, she continues to explore these intersections, pushing the boundaries of form and perception.
